WAIANAE, Hawaii — The hurt was inflicted quickly, and it was over just as fast.

Punahou blitzed Waianae in all three phases to do all of its damage before halftime in a 52-7 rout of the host Seariders at scenic Raymond Torii field on Friday night.

The Buffanblu (3-0) gave up their first score of the season with their backups inserted in the second half.

Quarterback John-Keawe Sagapolutele, a University of Hawaii commit, tossed two touchdowns and completed 12 of 15 passes for 173 yards. His night was done before the end of the second quarter. Running back, Alai Williams punched in two touchdowns on six carries.

Punahou inflicted its real damage on special teams, as the Seariders had trouble protecting their kicking game. Agenhart Ellis blocked a punt and Donte Utu ran it in from 5 yards out for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Ellis pressured the punter into aborting his release and fumbling the ball, resulting in a 15-yard run back by Alika Cavaco-Amoy for a 31-0 lead.

To make matters worse for Waianae (1-2), starting quarterback Tarent Moniz-Babb was knocked out of the game early with an apparent leg injury on a sack and lost fumble. He slung just six passes.

Kekai Burnett was a menace on defense with a pair of sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, and was named the OC16 Impact Player of the Game.

It added up to Punahou’s third straight rout of an Oahu Interscholastic Association foe in as many weeks, combined score 129-7 with shutouts of Moanalua and Castle. But next week could be a different story, as Nate Kia’s team travels up the North Shore to face defending state champion Kahuku in a possible state tournament preview.

Waianae’s backup quarterback, Akoni Halemano, ran in a 2-yard score in the final minute of the third quarter.

Waianae hosts Kapolei (3-0) next week.
