HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii is dropping its requirement of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test to enter its sporting venues.
Friday is the last day of enforcement of LumiSight app health check-ins to enter UH athletics events, as well as the requirement of mask wearing, UH announced Wednesday afternoon.
After Friday, masks will still be encouraged at “high-capacity games,” UH said.
Some of the first events to go without the requirements will be UH softball against Cal State Northridge at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, UH men’s volleyball against CSUN at the Stan Sheriff Center, and UH baseball against UC Irvine at Les Murakami Stadium.
UH instituted the requirements in October 2021 when it first began allowing fans to attend games again in the pandemic era.
UH also announced Wednesday that it will no longer require proof of COVID vaccination for students and employees at its 10 campuses as of Friday, though face masks will still be required in indoor classrooms through the end of the semester.
The Hawaii Safe Travels program and the state’s indoor mask mandate expire Friday, Gov. David Ige previously announced.
