EWA BEACH, Hawaii — The LPGA Lotte Championship continues to rotate sites among prestigious West Oahu venues in the pandemic era.

The Lotte, which was held at Ko Olina Golf Club for the event’s first eight years, switched to Kapolei Golf Club in 2021. It announced this week that it is moving again, to Hoakalei Country Club for the 10th running of the four-day event April 13-16.

A $2 million purse will be vied for among 144 competing players. It will be nationally televised on the Golf Channel.

“On behalf of Hoakalei Country Club and our valued members, we are honored to host the 2022 Lotte Championship here at our course, especially as Lotte celebrates its 10th anniversary as title sponsor of this prestigious LPGA tournament,” said Ken Terao, Hoakalei executive director and general manager, in a statement. “We look forward to a great event at the club and are thrilled to be a part of it. We believe that it will be great for golf and the State of Hawaii.”

Hoakalei, designed by Ernie Els, opened in 2009. Unlike last year, the tournament will be open to spectators.

Lydia Ko won the 2021 event at Kapolei in a blowout – a seven-stroke margin at 28 under.

“We are very excited to bring the 2022 Lotte Championship to Hoakalei Golf Club,” said Sean Pyun, LPGA chief business officer of Asia, in a statement. “This event is always an exciting and beautiful week on the LPGA Tour and we are happy to bring Hoakalei into the LPGA family as a host venue.”

Last year, Kapolei became the host site with a similar tight time frame before the start of the event. Ko Olina opted not to resume hosting duties that year after the event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Pacific Business News reported at the time.
