PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — Thanks to a good old-fashioned shootout, Kamehameha reigns and remains supreme in Hawaii girls soccer.

The Warriors achieved a three-peat in the Niu Health Urgent Care/HHSAA Division I championships with a victory on penalty kicks over rival Punahou on Saturday night at Radford.

After a scoreless regulation and two overtime periods, the teams went to the shootout. And like in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu season, Kamehameha came out on top, winning the PKs 3-1.

Madison Sharrer, Nikki Mau and Leila Kahoano netted points for the Warriors, while only Candace Ching converted for the Buffanblu.

Warriors forward Anuhea Aluli was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Marley Roe of Kamehameha and Kylie Pascual of Punahou were named the all-tournament goalkeepers.

It was the fifth Warriors title in the last 10 state tournaments under coach Melissa Moore. Kamehameha has now won 11 titles overall, matching Punahou for the most in state history.

The three-peat was achieved over four years because the 2021 season was nixed due to the COVID pandemic.

Preceding the D-I matchup, Solala Nasu’s 43rd-minute goal was the decider in Pac-Five’s Division II championship over Kauai.

The ILH D-II champions did not yield a goal in three matches in the tournament. Kayla Arucan of the Wolfpack and Jaeda Planas of the Red Raiders were named all-tournament goalkeepers.

Nasu was named Most Outstanding Player.

Pac-Five won its fourth D-II state title (2007, 2009, 2010), and first under co-coaches Shannon and Ryan Leong. It snapped a run of seven straight championships won by Hawaii Prep.

Kauai, the top overall seed in search of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation’s first state girls soccer title, finished runner-up for the second straight tournament and for the third time since the advent of D-II in 2007. KIF teams are 0-6 in girls soccer championship games all-time.
