HONOLULU — Derek Boyd II, a three-star running back at Lawndale High in Los Angeles, has committed to play for coach Timmy Chang and Hawaii for the 2022 season.
Boyd, listed at 6 foot 1 and 215 pounds by 247 Sports, made the announcement on social media. He was named the MVP of the Pioneer League in December. He posted a video of himself choosing an “H” cap over one with Southern Utah’s logo.
“For the next four years, I’ll be taking my talents to the University of Hawaii. Go Warriors,” Boyd said in the video.
According to Maxpreps.com, Boyd ran for 1,073 yards in nine games in 2021, with nine touchdowns.
He previously posted a video of his high school highlights.
UH has not yet announced the addition of Boyd on its end. Chang's first crop of seven signees was announced on National Signing Day on Wednesday.
There were no running backs in that group, but UH's eight remaining early signees under Todd Graham in December included 5-foot-8 running back Tylan Hines from Plano, Texas.
