KANEOHE, Hawaii — DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) warns promotors to cancel the “Sexy Sandbar Saturday” boat party from Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i to the Ahu o Laka sandbar in Kāne'ohe Bay, planned for Kamehameha Day weekend.
Party plans include “a sandbar party like you have never seen.” Five boats plan to provide transportation from a parking lot on base to the sandbar. Alcohol, drinks, music and a possible VIP package are being advertised with $65-$300 tickets.
Soliciting online reservations and charging admission for boat transportation without valid commercial documentation is not permitted, according to DOCARE Chief Jason Redulla.
“Clearly these people have no inkling of the trouble they’ll face should they proceed with this advertised party,” said Redulla. “Ahu o Laka is enjoyed by families and people of all ages, who won’t appreciate having a bunch of drunk young people around.”
State law forbids individuals from charging for boat rides and drinks. Legal alcohol consumption is allowed at Ahu o Laka except during Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day weekend.
“We want the promoters of this event to know that we are aware of what you’re planning and warn you to cancel the party now. Anyone caught selling tickets, operating a boat with paying customers without a valid commercial permit, serving alcohol to minors, or any other number of potential violations will be cited or arrested,” said Redulla.
