Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino announced Sunday that he will seek a second four-year term.
The county will hold its nonpartisan mayoral election in November this year following the August primary.
"Even with the extraordinary challenges we’ve faced with COVID-19, fires, floods, economic uncertainty, and more, the future of Maui County looks very promising," Victorino said in a statement.
Victorino has a Four Pillars of Recovery Plan that will be released after he formally files for reelection next month. Plan highlights include development of more affordable rentals and workforce housing for residents and upgrading to green infrastructure to cope with climate change and protect the environment.
Last week, an attempt to recall Victorino failed after organizers didn't collect the minimum number of signatures needed.
