Hawaii County’s Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a four-day American Red Cross Lifeguard certification course at Kamehameha Park’s Kohala Swimming Pool in Kapaʻau.
The course, which includes deep water training, will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 17, 19, 24 and 28 and is open to participants who will be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session on July 26.
To qualify for certification, participants must pass two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations that will be conducted on the first day.
Cost is $122, which must be paid in the exact amount in cash on the first day of classes. To learn more and to register, contact the Kohala Swimming Pool at 808-889-6933.
Participants are asked to bring CPR masks for adults and infants, a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, water and snacks and the Lifeguarding Participant’s manual each day to class.
