With 63 summer fun sites in the works, the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation is searching for interested applicants to apply for a job with its 2025 Summer Program that begins in June.
DPR invites interested individuals to explore their newly revamped websites and digital resources, including a video highlighting positions and an interactive map of the 63 locations.
More than a job, DPR says it’s an opportunity to develop essential job skills such as teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution, childcare experience and problem solving while being able to connect with your local community and creating long-lasting memories.
The more staff that are available at each site, the more keiki each can accommodate. Jobs offer competitive pay rates ranging from $15 to $20.10 per hour with a focus on coordinating recreation, supervising keiki, performing lifeguard duties and acting as a therapeutic aide.
Last year, over 1,200 Junior Leaders assisted in the summer fun program and are needed again this year. Anyone interested is asked to contact the specific site for registration information.
DPR aims to accommodate roughly 10,000 keiki and teens through its summer program each year.
The 2025 Summer Fun Program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 9 through July 25, except holidays on June 11 and July 4.
Registration costs about $125 per child, excluding Summer Plus — contracted keiki care before and after the regular program — and will be primarily done online through the Parks and Recreation Online System starting May 12 through May 16 based on the respective district:
- District 1, East Honolulu from 5 p.m. May 12
- District 2, West Honolulu from 5 p.m. May 13
- District 3, Leeward Oahu from 5 p.m. May 14
- District 4, Windward and North Oahu from 5 p.m. May 15
- District 5, Central Oahu from 5 p.m. May 16
