Business owners financially impacted by rail construction now have two more weeks to apply for the Transit Construction Mitigation Fund Grant, according to the City and County of Honolulu.
The city’s Department of Budget and Fiscal Services announced it has extended the application deadline, giving business owners two additional weeks — until 10 a.m. February 21 — to apply for the grant. The previous deadline was February 7.
The Honolulu City Council passed Bill 40 in January 2024 to establish the TCMF to help eligible local businesses struggling due to the construction of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project. Grants of up to $10,000 per applicant will be awarded on a first come, first served basis for the current fiscal year.
Eligible businesses:
- Have 15 or fewer employees
- Generate less than $750,000 in annual revenue
- Are located within one block of active rail construction on Dillingham Boulevard
- Are currently open for business
- Are majority-owned by Honolulu residents
- Were open for business at their current physical location before Jan. 1, 2022
- Meet the business 10% revenue decline requirement
Subject to annual funding availability, the city will consider TCMF grants for businesses along the active construction corridor for the rail line.
Information on grant availability and the application process is available on the TCMF webpage. Applications must be submitted by 10 a.m. HST Feb. 21.
