The Department of the Attorney General on Friday announced the launch of its Human Trafficking Prevention Program webpage aimed at raising awareness of and providing education and resources to prevent human trafficking in Hawaii.

Created in 2023 by the legislature, the intent of the Human Trafficking Prevention Program is to address the needs of human trafficking victims through various strategies statewide.

DAG will hold various events throughout the month of January designated as Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

A sign waving and resources fair was held Jan. 10 and the Lunch & Learn Speaker Series held via Zoom gathers experts from diverse fields to present on critical topics related to human trafficking.

“These virtual sessions are designed to educate and empower attendees,” said Human Trafficking Abatement Coordinator Dianne Bowen-Coleman of the Department of the Attorney General in a news release. “We encourage community members, service providers, law enforcement, and policymakers to attend and participate in these events to strengthen the fight against human trafficking in Hawaii.”

The series began Jan. 7 with a host of topics scheduled in the coming weeks. Visit the website for information and to register for each session.

Finally, there will be a candlelight vigil on Jan. 30 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the State Capitol Rotunda honoring survivors and remembering those impacted by human trafficking. Speakers will include advocates and service providers within a reflective space to reaffirm a shared community commitment to end human trafficking. Register on the website noted above.
