Experts in the art of lei-making can now apply to be part of the Lei Court for 2025, according to a news release from the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Each year’s Lei Court is selected from one of four rotating age groups, with 2025 designated for Nā Mākua (the Adults). Applicants must be between 31 to 45 years of age by the day of the Lei Court Selection scheduled for March 1, 2025.
During the selection event, applicants will display their lei-making abilities, hula, poise, personality and public speaking in English and Hawaiian. The selection will determine a Lei Queen or King and their Princesses or Princes to represent the City and County of Honolulu throughout 2025.
The 97th Annual Lei day celebration will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Kapiolani Park, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In preparation for the annual lei contest, DPR staff will provide free lei-making workshops at various sites on Oahu. Find when and where the free classes will be held on DPR’s website.
