The gymnasium located in the 9.95-acre Pearl City District Park will undergo a major renovation set to begin on Dec. 16.
The renovation, which includes removing and replacing the gym roof, rebuilding the ventilation and awnings, and replacing windows, has been deemed so extensive that it will require the closure of the gym, a portion of the upper baseball field and periodic closures of the adjacent basketball courts.
Kapili Construction was awarded the over $1.3 million construction contract.
The estimated completion of the project will be just before the start of the city’s most popular keiki and teen Summer Fun 2025 program.
The park opened in June 1956. Along with the gym and outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis, there is also a 25-yard pool with a separate training pool.
