Hawaii voters have until Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to “cure” deficient ballot envelopes and ensure that their 2024 General Election ballots are counted.

What You Need To Know

  • In Hawaii, voters who opt for mail-in ballot submission are required to sign the official return envelope for verification
  • If a signature is missing or if it cannot be verified against the signature on record, the voter is mailed a letter with an affidavit form and instructions for addressing the issue
  • In addition to the official notification via regular mail, election workers in each of the state’s four counties have been contacting voters with submission issues via email and phone since ballot envelopes were first received in mid-October

In Hawaii, voters who opt for mail-in ballot submission are required to sign the official return envelope for verification.

When a ballot is received, election personnel scan the unique barcode on the envelope and check the signature against the signature on file with the individual’s voter registration record. If a signature is missing or if it cannot be verified against the signature on record, the voter is mailed a letter with an affidavit form and instructions for addressing the issue.

According to election officials, thousands of deficient ballot submissions statewide have yet to be resolved.

Voters can check the status of their ballots by visiting Hawaii.BallotTrax.net or calling their county clerk’s elections division.
