Kauai County’s Department of Public Works reminds the public of the Kapaa Refuse Transfer Station closure for renovations starting Saturday, Nov. 2, and continuing through July 2025.

Green waste collection, however, will continue in Kapaa.

During the closure, residents can drop off their bagged trash at the Kapaa Base Yard at 4900 Kahau Road in Kapaa from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Only bagged trash from residents will be accepted.

Trash, tires, motor oil and propane tanks can be taken to the Lihue RTS at 3450 Ahukini Road in Lihue or the Hanalei RTS at 5-3751 Kuhio Highway in Princeville.

Scrap metal and appliances can be taken to Hanalei RTS or Puhi Metals Recycling Center on Puhi Road.

Officials remind the public that materials being accepted at Lihue RTS have been temporarily modified — no construction and demolition debris or trailers containing trash will be accepted and pallets must be cut into quarters. Examples of construction and demolition debris include drywall, wood waste, tiles, roofing material, fiberglass shower stalls and tubs, plumbing pipes, carpet rolls, etc.

The public can call 808-241-4841 with questions or for more information.
