The University of Hawaii announced enrollment across its 10 campuses surpassed 50,000 students for the first time since 2018.

For the fall 2024 semester, there are 50,418 students enrolled in the UH system, a 3% increase when compared to fall 2023, according to a release.

Enrollment is up at eight of 10 UH campuses, including at all seven community colleges, which is the first time this has happened since 2010.

Also notable, first-time freshmen at UH from Hawaii high schools increased by 10% across the system, including a 15% increase at UH Manoa and a 9% increase at the community colleges.

“This is not just good news for UH, it's good news for the entire state. The more people who go to college means a more skilled workforce, and that translates to higher wages, and fewer residents receiving government assistance. The ripple effect cannot be understated,” said UH President David Lassner in a statement. “I am most excited about the increases in our first-time freshmen from Hawaii.”

Out of UH’s seven community colleges, Leeward CC saw the biggest increase in enrollment.

UH West Oahu and UH Hilo were the only campuses that saw small dips in enrollment.
