After a follow-up inspection on Oct. 25, the Hawaii Department of Health Food Safety Branch issued a green “pass” placard to Kat’s Kau Kau Moʻopuna Style allowing it to reopen.
Makaio Holdings LLC operates the food truck, which parks at Mile Marker 106, Mamalahoa Highway.
The food truck was issued a red “closed” placard on Oct. 22 and was immediately shut down by the DOH because the facility lacked a working hand washing sink, according to a news release.
DOH determined that the violation had been resolved and the hand washing sink is operational. Dedicated handwashing sinks are critical for food safety in commercial kitchens since employees use them to clean and sanitize their hands to prevent contamination and the potential spread of food-borne diseases, according to the release.
The DOH Food Safety Branch conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food is prepared, manufactured, distributed or sold in order to protect the health of Hawaii residents and visitors.
