KAUNAKAKAI, Hawaii — Docked at Kaunakakai at Molokaʻi over the past week, Hōkūleʻa and her crew have been welcoming school groups and the public on board to learn about the voyaging canoe, the art of traditional voyaging and the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s mission to inspire the next generation to care for the Earth.

Depending on the weather, Hōkūleʻa and her crew are set to leave Molokaʻi on Sunday, heading toward Lānaʻi where they will be welcomed at Hulapōeo at approximately 4 p.m., according to a release.

In addition to canoe tours, there will be events open to the public:

  • Oct. 6 ETA 4 p.m. - Arrival and greeting at Mānele Harbor
  • Oct. 7 through 11, 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Dockside canoe tours
  • Oct. 7, 7 p.m. - Observatory event and Hōkūleʻa crew presentation at Kilo Hōkū Observatory
  • Oct. 8, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. - “Learn What it Takes to be a Crew Member” at Mānele Harbor
  • Oct. 10, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Stargazing with Hōkūleʻa crew at Hulupoʻe Beach

The voyaging canoe will remain in Mānele Harbor until she departs for Māʻalaea on Maui, the next stop on the Pae ʻĀina Statewide Sail.
