The Kauai Elections Division is urging people with P.O. Boxes at the closed Keālia Post Office to re-register to vote with a new mailing address.
This will ensure they receive their ballot packet. Unlike regular mail, the U.S. Postal Service will only deliver a ballot packet to the address on the packet. While USPS can forward other mail to another address, this is not allowed for ballot packets. This requirement ensures validation of voter mailing addresses, according to a news release.
The Keālia Post Office closed on Oct. 1, 2024, after the local business person who operated the facility decided they were no longer interested in managing the site, according to KITV.
Affected voters can re-register via one of the following options:
- Voters with a valid Hawaii Driver’s License can re-register using the Hawaii Online Voter Registration System.
- Paper Hawaii Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded and printed.
- Complete an application in-person at the Elections Division located at 4386 Rice Street in Lihue.
