LIHUE, Hawaii — The Kauai Fire Department invites the community to join the 2024 Fire Prevention Week kick-off event on Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center. The event is being held in partnership with the cultural center.
“This event is a great opportunity to bring our partners and community together to prevent fires at home as well as dangerous wildfires,” said KFD Fire Chief Michael Gibson in a release. “Besides our community risk reduction programs, we want to introduce our public education curriculum to families to encourage fire prevention conservations that begin at home.”
Attendees can get information from booths by the Kauai Emergency Management Agency, Kauai Police Department, American Red Cross and Ocean Safety Bureau. There will also be fire extinguisher training, hands-on CPR demonstrations, personal wildland fire education and information on the Fall Prevention program for seniors.
Keiki will enjoy fire trucks, picture taking with Sparky and Smokey the Bear, plus games, prizes and more.
Fire Prevention Week is a nationwide observance, Oct. 6 through 12. This year’s theme is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”
