HONOLULU — A late afternoon news release states the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and the City and County of Honolulu received multiple calls regarding the sounding of sirens on military bases in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two rounds of the sirens began at approximately 3:15 a.m. waking up residents in Wahiawa and Whitmore Village. The sirens sounded again roughly 30 minutes later.

According to a post in the “Only in Wahiawa” Facebook group, a person shared a text she received stating, “Disregard wailing siren for JBPH-H, please disregard wailing siren for Hickam Field, alarm went off for faulty tsunami monthly activation …”

Per the release, HI-EMA and the City and County of Honolulu are not responsible for the operation of the military sirens, which is currently being investigated by the military.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. In the meantime, residents are advised to remain calm and stay tuned for official communication
