HONOLULU — The Department of Health issued a red “closed” placard to King Kong Lunch Wagon in Kalihi because it was not using a permitted support kitchen, according to a news release.

The food truck, located at 1818 Kanakanui Street, was closed on Tuesday.

During Tuesday’s inspection, the DOH inspector noted that King Kong Lunch Wagon no longer had access to a support kitchen, rendering the food establishment permit invalid.

King Kong Lunch Wagon must remain closed until it finds another valid support kitchen, submits a new permit application and is approved following a pre-operation inspection.

DOH requires food trucks to use support kitchens. According to DOH, this is because the food must be adequately protected during preparation, storage, cooking and cooling with the proper refrigeration and cooking equipment to ensure food safety.
