WAIANAE, Hawaii — The public is invited to attend a memorial service for Twinkle Borge, a homeless advocate and community pillar, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Puuhonua O Waianae Farm Village, 85-908 Waianae Valley Road.

Borge died on Aug. 5, 2024, at 54 years old. She gave voice to the needs of thousands of the island’s houseless residents and worked with those in power to secure immediate and long-term solutions.

She was the leader of Puuhonua O Waianae, a community of unsheltered individuals and families located near the Waianae Boat Harbor, where she lived for 17 years. In 2020, Borge and others in the community fundraised to purchase a 20-acre property in the back of Waianae Valley, known as the Puuhonua O Waianae Farm Village, which will eventually provide permanent housing for up to 250 houseless people.

During the service, Gov. Josh Green will present a Certificate in Memoriam from the State of Hawaii to Twinkle’s family. He will also declare Sept. 15, 2024, as a Day of Aloha in her honor.

City Councilmember Andria Tupola will speak about her contributions to the community and present Twinkle’s family with a Certificate in Memoriam from the City and County of Honolulu.

Attendees are asked to park at the Waianae Small Boat Harbor or Waianae High School, because public parking will not be available at the POW Farm Village. Shuttles will transport attendees between the parking areas and the memorial service, starting at 8:30 a.m. A drive-through option will also be available for those who wish to pay their respects to the family from 8 to 10 a.m.

Also, the service will be live-streamed on POW’s YouTube page.
