HONOLULU — Duke’s Waikiki invites amateur keiki and youth ukulele players to showcase their talent at the annual Duke’s Ukes competition taking place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kahala Mall’s center stage on Oct. 12.

There will also be live performances by local musicians and the chance for attendees to win door prizes.

Interested musicians 18 and under should submit an online video and fill out a form through Sept. 19 in one of the following categories – keiki instrumental, keiki instrumental with vocals, youth instrumental or youth instrumental with vocals.

“We’re thrilled to bring Duke’s Ukes back to Kahala Mall for the second year in a row,” said Duke’s Waikiki General Manager Drew Crocker in a release. “We’re so proud to provide a platform for our young, local musicians to demonstrate their incredible talents, and thankful for the amazing support from KoAloha Ukulele, Kamaka Ukulele, Kahala Mall and the entire community for helping us to make this event an annual success.”

Contestants will be notified on Sept. 20. Those selected to perform will receive feedback from judges who are notable ukulele professionals. First place winners in each category will receive a koa ukulele sponsored by KoAloha Ukulele and Kamaka Ukulele and the opportunity to perform at Duke’s Waikiki.
