HONOLULU, Hawaii — Gov. Josh Green has appointed Brig. Gen. Phillip Mallory as the state's next deputy adjutant general, succeeding Brig. Gen Stephen Logan.

"I am honored and humbled to be selected by Gov. Green and Brig. Gen. Logan as the next DAG and look forward to serving under their leadership," Mallory said in a release issued on Tuesday. "This is an unbelievable opportunity and something that was unimaginable to me when I joined the (Hawaii Air National Guard) almost two decades ago. I am extremely grateful."

Green previously appointed Logan to replace Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara as adjutant general.

In his new position, Mallory will assist Logan in leading the state of Hawaii Department of Defense, which includes the Hawaii National Guard, Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, Civilian-Military Programs (Youth Challenge and Job Challenge Academies) and the Office of Veterans' Services.

Mallory previously served as commander of the 154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard, which operates out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The 154th Wing operates across four islands, responding to state civil emergencies and worldwide contingencies using C-17A, KC-135R, and F-22A aircraft.

"I will bring a passion for service to the position to serve our state and the soldiers and airmen of the Hawaii National Guard," Mallory said. "I'm also looking forward to working with the state legislature on issues affecting our state employees, our guard members."
