HONOLULU — This coming week will bring heavier traffic than usual around the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus as roughly 3,500 students move into various housing, including the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center.

Dole Street, University Avenue, Metcalf Street and the H-1 Freeway University Avenue east- and west-bound off-ramps will be extra busy on Aug. 19-21 and Aug. 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Signage and traffic modifications will be in place to mitigate possible traffic backups. Still, motorists are advised to be extra vigilant along Dole Street and University Avenue because of increased pedestrian traffic, vehicle traffic, lane closures and frequent car stops or slows.

Students moving into housing facilities will use the same process as last year:

  • Student residents will park or be dropped off at the Zone 20 parking structure to ease congestion on surrounding streets.
  • Check in at the Stan Sheriff Center before proceeding to individual housing sites.
  • Students are asked to check in at their assigned times to prevent backlogs and traffic delays. Those who arrive early will not be allowed to proceed to their building until their assigned time.
  • Students moving into the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center are also asked to arrive at their assigned check-in time.

Visit the UH Manoa Student Housing Services website for additional detailed information on moving in.
