KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Hawaii Island residents, especially those living in high-risk wildfire areas, are encouraged to attend Hawaiian Electric’s Community Resilience Fair taking place at Kealakehe High School from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 19.

Hawaiian Electric and various partners will help residents plan and prepare for potential power outages and other emergencies as the state heads into the hurricane season and faces dry summer months with the high possibility of wildfires.

Attendees can find information and resources to help protect their homes and families during emergencies. Special focus will be on Public Safety Power Shutoffs in areas at higher risk of wildfires such as Kohala (below the 18-mile marker), Waikoloa, Kalaoa, Holualoa and regions between Mauna Kea Access Road and Waikii Ranch.

Hawaiian Electric encourages residents to use its website search feature to find out if their address may be affected by a power shutoff.

“We strongly encourage everyone, particularly those living in high-risk areas, to attend this event and learn about the protocols for Public Safety Power Shutoffs and other emergency measures," said Mayor Mitch Roth in a news release. “Your safety is our top priority, and understanding these procedures will help ensure that our community is prepared and protected during critical situations.”
