Maui County is seeking feedback about a possible ferry to connect Lanai and Molokai with Maui.

An online survey asks community members about demand, routes and other preferences for a ferry, according to a news release.

The Maui County Department of Transportation is conducting the Maui County Ferry Feasibility Study, which was initiated by the Maui County Council. Council members expressed interest in learning more about a possible ferry because currently there are limited air and water transit options. The study is expected to be completed and presented to the Council in February.

Community members can fill out the survey until Aug. 3, 2024.

County officials also invited residents to share feedback at the following meetings:

  • Lanai: Monday, July 29, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Lanai Public Library, 333 Fraser Ave., Lanai City
  • Lahaina: Tuesday, July 30, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Lahaina Civic Center, 1840 Honoapiilani Highway, Lahaina
  • Kahului: Wednesday, July 31, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Kahului Community Center, 275 Uhu St., Kahului
  • Molokai: Thursday, Aug. 1, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Kualapuʻu Community Center, 1 Uwao St., Kualapuu

“As we conduct the Maui County Ferry Feasibility Study, it is important for us to hear from the community on potential routes, frequency and other factors for an intracounty ferry that would connect Lanai and Molokai with Maui,” said County Department of Transportation Director Marc Takamori in a statement. “The community will drive the conceptual plan, and we will continue public outreach to make sure we are drafting a proposal that reflects residents’ needs and concerns.”
