HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced Puuloa Beach Park will close temporarily in an effort to reduce the launch of illegal fireworks.
Barriers will be installed to restrict parking from 8 p.m. July 3 through 5 a.m. July 5 and will be removed after the park reopens on Friday. No events have been permitted at the park July 3 through July 5.
In addition, no overnight stays or permits for Ala Moana Regional Park are allowed for the July 4 holiday since there will be no fireworks display this year. Therefore, park facilities are available on a first come, first served basis during regular park hours, 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
For the 2024 Kailua Fireworks Display, DPR suggests the public utilize a free shuttle that will run from the Kailua Longs Drugs parking lot to Kailua Beach Center from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on July 4. Event organizers say there are no school parking lots reserved for the event though DPR said several parking lots at Kailua Beach Park and Kailua District Park will be available.
DPR reminds the public to respect fellow park users and the natural environment by following these tips:
- View the permitted professional displays, no other fireworks are allowed.
- In consideration of fellow park users, enjoy music at reasonable levels.
- Dump used coals in designated pits, not at the base of a tree or in the sand. If unable to find a pit, drench coals with water, stir thoroughly, then drench them again before throwing them away.
- Throw trash in rubbish bins; do not dump/leave large items in the parks. Best practice: Leave No Trace.
