LAHAINA, Hawaii — The Maui County Office of Recovery will open a resource center, which uses a scheduling system, to support Lahaina wildfire survivors on July 3 at Lahaina Gateway.
The new resource center will help fill the hole left by the closures of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Recovery Center and the state of Hawaii’s Community Resource Center on June 29.
Community agencies currently operating out of aforementioned centers will continue to provide support for Lahaina wildfire survivors through a scheduling system, according to a news release.
“We are committed to ensuring that survivors of the disaster continue to receive the support they need during this challenging time,” said Hawaii Emergency Management Agency State Disaster Recovery Center Coordinator Francis Kau in a statement. “The long-term recovery program and Disaster Case Management Program will also remain available to survivors — to help them navigate the road to recovery.”
FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center originally operated out of the Lahaina Civic Center, but in April it transitioned to a new location, reopening at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort. At the same time, the state of Hawaii opened its Community Resources Center at the Royal Lahaina Resort and Bungalows.
