HONOLULU — Starting July 1, Bryan Gallagher will assume his new role of deputy director of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Planning and Permitting, announced Mayor Rick Blangiardi on Monday.
Gallagher is currently the deputy director of the city’s Department of Design and Construction, a position he’s held for nearly two years.
“Bryan Gallagher is an outstanding leader and civil engineer with a proven track record of excellence,” said Blangiardi in a news release. “His extensive experience and successful handling of various challenges at the Department of Design and Construction and his prior work at the Board of Water Supply (BWS) make him an ideal fit for this critical leadership position. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Department of Planning and Permitting and are confident in the positive impact he will make.”
Director of Department of Planning and Permitting Dawn Takeuchi Apuna added, “We are very excited and thankful to have Bryan on board with his skillset and city experience during this critical, transformative time at DPP.”
Prior to his role as deputy director at DDC, Gallagher held various engineering and leadership roles at the Board of Water Supply, focusing on water system planning, facility operations and maintenance, and the design and construction of essential infrastructure.
Gallagher earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Hawaii. His understanding of engineering principles, communication skills and practical leadership will be invaluable as he transitions into his new role.
The search for a new deputy director for the city’s Department of Design and Construction is beginning.
