KAHULUI, Hawaii — Properties that have been delinquent for three or more years and received a final notice of tax sale will be auctioned off on May 21 at a real property tax sale and continued on May 22 if necessary, according to the Maui County Department of Finance.

The sale will take place at Kihei Community Center, 303 E. Lipoa St., Kihei. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the auction begins at 9:30 a.m.

Parcels will be offered at the upset price — the total of the delinquent real property taxes, penalty, interest and costs related to the tax sale — and sold to the highest bidder with a certified or cashier’s check, according to a news release.

Bidders must register and verify funds before the auction starts, and representatives or agents of others must provide notarized documents showing authorization to bid on behalf of the parties they represent.

The county said that as of May 2, five properties were to be sold at the May 21 tax sale.

Properties may be removed from the tax sale if all taxes, penalties, interest, and costs have been paid prior to the sale.
