AIEA, Hawaii — La Birria in Aiea has been closed because it was operating without a valid permit, according to a Hawaii Department of Health news release. 

The DOH’s Food Safety Branch issued a red “closed” placard to the lunch wagon on Monday. 

During a routine inspection, a DOH inspector discovered that La Birria was not using its support kitchen at 98-1005 Moanalua Road in Aiea. 

In order for La Birria to reopen, the DOH is requiring the following to be met: 

• Apply for a new food establishment permit to use its new kitchen
• Pass a pre-operational inspection for both the approved kitchen as well as the lunch wagon

DOH said it will schedule a follow-up inspection when an application and fees are submitted to the department.
