HONOLULU — Molokai farmers and other commercial users of pesticides will be able to safely dispose of canceled, suspended, unwanted or unlabeled pesticides thanks to the free Pesticide Disposal Program by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Pesticides Branch.
The PDP is open only to agricultural operations such as farms, ranches, nurseries and greenhouse growers. Pesticide dealers, licensed pest control operators, golf course operators, landscape professionals, certified applicators, state and county agencies, and commercial end users of pesticides are also eligible. See the list of acceptable and unacceptable pesticides.
Household pesticides will not be accepted. Residents can contact Maui County for information regarding household hazardous waste disposal programs on the county website.
Participants must register in advance by 4:30 p.m. May 22. Pesticide drop off is June 12; the location will be provided only to registered participants.
The registration form and PDP information are available on the HDOA website, as well as FAQs, transportation safety tips and more.
Anyone with questions about the program and for registration assistance, contact EnviroServices & Training Center LLC at 808-456-3494 or email wm@gotoetc.com.
“The Pesticides Disposal Program has been very successful across the state and we are pleased to bring the program to Molokai,” said Hawaii Board of Agriculture Chairperson Sharon Hurd in a news release. “We encourage all businesses on Molokai to take advantage of this program which helps to protect human and animal health, as well as the environment.”
