KAHULUI, Hawaii — Starting April 28, the Hawaii Department of Transportation advises travelers going through Kahului Airport that TSA PreCheck has moved to Checkpoint 1 next to the ticketing lobby.

Checkpoint 2, which previously screened TSA PreCheck travelers, will now serve as a general checkpoint when there is passenger overflow, according to a HDOT news release. The change is to accommodate the increased number of TSA PreCheck passengers.

A diagram shows the new layout.

A new offering for travelers at Kahului Airport starting April 30 is Clear, a travel services company offering an optional identification verification service. Note that passengers still need to be screened by TSA.

Travelers who subscribe to Clear for a fee can use a dedicated line to verify their identity using biometrics such as scanning their eyes or fingerprint instead of having to show a government-issued photo ID.

There will be a dedicated area for Clear members across the walkway in front of Checkpoint 1 with ambassadors who are designated to stay within their area.

The Clear service is similar to vendors such as rideshare, taxi service, food and beverage, and retail services.

An article on The Points Guy website says Clear is available at 56 U.S. airports in addition to stadiums and other large venues as of Jan. 29. It also goes into how Clear compares to TSA PreCheck.
