The project requires excavating and installing perforated underdrain pipes. It also includes the reconstruction of the asphalt concrete pavement for sections of the road.

The Department of Design and Construction said the work should improve roadway infrastructure, exchange drainage and reduce the risk of subsurface water accumulation.

The contractor, Integrated Construction, Inc., will complete the work in phases, in order to reduce impacts to the public and facilitate pedestrian and vehicle traffic movement.

Integrated Construction, Inc. will help direct local traffic through the construction site, but drivers are expected to anticipate delays.

“No Parking” signs will be placed a week before the project is to start on both sides of Orchid Street. Vehicles parked on posted streets will be towed.

TheBus route will be rerouted during construction.
