HONOLULU — A $200,000 grant from the Atherton Family Foundation will fund a new track and field facility for Mid-Pacific Institute, the school announced on Thursday.
The project will not only benefit the school’s physical education and athletics program, but the wider community as well, according to a news release.
“We are deeply grateful to the Atherton Family Foundation for their generous and visionary support of our new track and field project,” said Mid-Pacific President Dr. Paul Turnbull in the release. “The Atherton family has a long and distinguished history with our school, dating back to our founding in 1908. Their legacy of philanthropy and leadership has helped shape Mid-Pacific into the diverse, innovative and world-ready school that it is today.”
The new track and field facility will be constructed on the current athletic field in the middle of campus, serving as a focal point for physical education, sports conditioning, community events and student activities. It will also provide a state-of-the-art venue to host track and field meets.
“At Mid-Pacific, we’re committed to providing opportunities to empower our students,” said Scott Wagner, Mid-Pacific athletic director. “Our new track and field facility will be a game-changer for our thriving athletics program.
“With over 100 teams participating in varsity, junior varsity, intermediate and CSAL sports, we offer our students the chance to compete and represent their school. We are excited to see the positive impact this project will have on our school community and our visiting guests,” said Wagner.
Construction will begin in Spring 2025, with completion set for Spring 2026.
Founded in 1908, Mid-Pacific is a preschool through grade 12 independent school with 1,400 students.
