Many county offices and services will be closed to observe the state holiday, Good Friday, on March 29. The Christian holiday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and always falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday.
Here is a roundup of what's opened and closed across the state.
State of Hawaii
- All public libraries will be closed on Friday. Libraries that are normally open on Sundays will also be closed to observe Easter Sunday.
Oahu
- TheBus will operate on a state holiday schedule on Friday. For schedule information, visit thebus.org.
- The Skyline will operate on a state holiday schedule on Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For rider information, visit honolulu.gov/skyline.
- Trash will be collected on Friday. Transfer stations, convenience centers, H-POWER and the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will all be open on Friday.
- Parks and botanical gardens will be open on Friday.
- Municipal golf courses will be open on Friday. Visit honolulu.gov/des/golf for revised play information.
- The Honolulu Zoo will be open on Friday.
- The Neal S. Blaisdell Center box office will be closed on Friday.
- The People’s Open Markets will not be held on Friday.
- All satellite city halls and driver licensing centers will be closed on Friday.
- On-street parking will be free on Friday, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Queen Kapiolani Park, metered parking lots and meters on specific Waikiki streets. View the list of Waikiki streets here.
- Traffic will not be coned for contraflow on Friday.
- Parking will be restricted in Lanikai over the three-day holiday weekend, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- University of Hawaii at Manoa Galleries and the John Young Museum of Art will be closed for Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Kauai
- County of Kauai offices will be closed on Friday.
- All neighborhood centers will be closed on Friday.
- The Waimea and Kapaa swimming pools will be closed on Friday.
- Refuse transfer stations and the Kekaha landfill will be closed on Friday.
- The HI5 Bottle Redemption Center operated by Reynolds at the Kauai Resource Center in Lihue will be closed on Friday.
- The Puhi Metals Recycling Center will be closed on Friday.
- Kauai Community Recycling Services in Kilauea and Kapaa will remain open on Friday.
- Residential trash pickup schedules will not change for the holiday on Friday.
- The Kauai Bus will be operating on its current daily schedule on Friday.
Maui County
- County of Maui offices will be closed.
- The Central Maui Landfill and EKO Compost Greenwaste will be open from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday.
- The Hana Landfill, Lanai Landfill and Molokai Landfill will all be closed on Friday.
Hawaii Island
- County of Hawaii offices will be closed.
