KAPOLEI, Hawaii — The 8th Annual Ko Olina Children’s Festival returns to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa on May 11 from 3 to 8 p.m. with a sunset screening of the Disney Pixar movie, “A Bug’s Life.”

Designed to engage young minds and foster a love of the natural world, the day offers an afternoon of interactive exhibits, creative workshops, live performances, food stands and more.

A few of the highlights:

  • A Butterfly Dome into which keiki enter for a true interactive experience of fun and learning
  • An interactive exhibit by the University of Hawaii School of Entomology that shares the fascinating world of Hawaii’s creepy crawlers
  • A green thumb activity with Malama Learning Center as keiki pot their own native plants to take home
  • The return of famed artist, illustrator and creator of World Wide Walls, Jasper Wong
  • Insect-inspired KidzArt art projects
  • Whimsical bug-inspired face painting
  • Free customized keiki IDs
  • Photo booths

Presale tickets start at $27 for keiki and $40 for adults that includes parking and shuttle transportation. Special presale rates are available for active military. Purchase presale tickets at the event website.

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is also offering a special Children’s Festival room rate when booked early.

Since its start in 2014, the Ko Olina Children’s Festival has raised nearly $400,000 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Previous festivals have helped the center build a new emergency triage room and supported medical needs for the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care units. Proceeds from this year’s event will continue to go to Hawaii Pacific Health, which oversees Kapiolani Medical Center, Pali Momi Medical Center, Straub Medical Center and Wilcox Medical Center on Kauai.
