The Department of the Medical Examiner on Friday released the names and cause of death for the victims in the Manoa murder-suicide that took place on Sunday.
The Honolulu Police Department Lt. Deena Thoemmes said Sunday at a news conference that an adult man allegedly stabbed his wife and three children with a knife that was recovered at their family home in Manoa.
The Medical Examiner identified the adult man as 46-year-old Paris Oda, a chiropractor at Oda Ohana Chiropractic and Medical Massage in Honolulu. The Medical Examiner said he killed himself and described the manner of death as “stab wounds of the chest.”
The victims were 48-year-old Naoko Oda, who was killed by “multiple sharp force injuries;” 17-year-old Sakurako Oda, who was killed in the same manner as her mother; 12-year-old Orion Oda, who was killed by “sharp force wounds of torso”; and 10-year-old Nana Oda, who was killed in the same manner as her older brother.
“The motive is still under investigation,” said Lt. Thoemmes on Sunday.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Tuesday that records show Paris Oda was allegedly mired in debt and had faced a lawsuit over unpaid rent for his chiropractic business.
Sunday’s murder-suicide is Hawaii's worst mass homicide since the 1999 Xerox shooting, which left seven people dead.
