WAILUKU, Hawaii — On Tuesday, Maui police arrested two juveniles for threats made toward Iao Intermediate School as their investigation continues into several alleged threats toward Maui County schools.

Two females, ages 13 and 14, were arrested for Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree in the late afternoon after their parents were notified of the situation. Family Court was apprised of the investigation, after which they authorized the release of both females to their parents.

MPD asks the public to report any suspicious activity or information as the investigation continues.

The Maui Police have arrested a 13-year-old girl for Terroristic Threatening in the first degree following an investigation of threats made against various Maui schools Monday.

In a news release late Monday afternoon, MPD stated that the suspect was arrested in relation to a threat to Kalama Intermediate. She was arrested at approximately 3:20 p.m. and her parents have been notified of the circumstances. Family Court authorized the juvenile’s release to her parents.

MPD says that it continues to investigate other threats to other Maui schools and that it will keep an increased police presence in and around the affected campuses throughout the week.

Earlier today, Maui Police Department sent out a news release just before 10:30 a.m. Monday reporting they were aware of “multiple alleged threats” to various schools throughout Maui County.

MPD personnel are actively investigating the threats and working closely with school officials to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. Police officers will be increasingly present in and around school campuses.

They continue to ask the public to be vigilant and immediately report suspicious activity or information to the Maui Police Department.

On Monday morning, Maui Police Department reported they were aware of an alleged threat directed at Baldwin High School and would significantly increase police presence in and around the school campus and surrounding area as a result.

MPD said in a news release they are working with school officials to assess the situation. While the added police presence may cause alarm, MPD said it's assuring the public they are taking all necessary precautions to keep students, faculty and staff safe.

A Facebook post by Wailuku resident Jon Viloria showed a letter addressed to Baldwin High ohana from Principal Keoni Wilhelm dated Feb. 25 stating school administrators were aware of the alleged threat written on a toilet seat that had been circulating on social media and that school officials were working with MPD to investigate the situation.

“School will remain open with no changes in the schedule,” wrote Wilhelm. “All threats to our school and students are taken seriously and investigated immediately and thoroughly. Safety is a priority and communication is an important aspect of keeping our school and students safe.”

Maui police is asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information.
