Kauai’s Department of Parks and Recreation discovered several trees burned at eastside parks, according to a news release.

Burned trees were found at Lydgate Beach Park, Anini Beach Park and Anahola Beach Park.

Officials warned that once someone ignites a fire, it can rapidly spread to nearby vegetation, structures or homes, and may injure someone.

“Arson in our parks, with the ignition of trees, has the potential to quickly escalate into uncontrolled wildfires, putting lives, property and the surrounding area in jeopardy,” said Kauai Fire Department Chief Michael Gibson.

“Arson is a serious crime with severe consequences. It poses an immediate threat to lives, properties and the environment, and undermines community safety. Perpetrators will face significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines,” said Kauai Police Department Chief Todd Raybuck.

KPD urges anyone with information about the arson to call dispatch at 808-241-1711. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers Kauai at 808-246-8300, submit a tip at cskauai.org, or through the Crime Stoppers Kauai P3 Tips Mobile App, available for download on Android and Apple mobile devices.
