There are more than 400 pets living with people displaced by the Aug. 8 wildfire, who are still in temporary hotel housing.
In order to help them, the Maui Humane Society opened the Lahaina Pet Resource Center Wednesday, which includes a mobile veterinary clinic, support from MHS’ Wildfire Community Liaison, and free pet food and supplies, according to a news release.
The mobile veterinary clinic will provide weekly wellness services, such as vaccines, microchips and flea prevention.
The MHS’ Wildfire Community Liaison will work one-on-one with pet owners to help them find resources for pet-friendly housing, financial support for off-island pet travel, and more.
“As Maui Humane Society affirms our support and kuleana, our Lahaina location will act as a seed of regrowth to our resilient West Side community and island,” Johnny Lingao, MHS Wildfire Community Liaison, said. “Through providing free resources to those affected by the tragic Lahaina fire, it is our mission to keep pets and people together.”
The Lahaina Pet Resource Center is at 48 Ulupono Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pet owners can schedule one-on-one consultations with MHS’ Wildfire Community Liaison for specialized support. MHS’ mobile veterinary clinic will offer free wellness services Wednesday at this location. Find more information about veterinary services and scheduling at Maui Humane Society’s website.
