HONOLULU — The city’s Department of Design and Construction alerts the public to a curb ramp project beginning Jan. 16 that will affect various locations on Oahu.
Construction will run 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, except holidays, with completion expected at the end of July.
According to a news release, the work entails the demolition, removal and disposal of existing pavements, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and curb ramps; construction of new sidewalks, curb ramps and curb and gutters; reconstruction of pavement transitions; the adjustment of utility box frames and covers; and the restoration of all pavement striping.
Officials advise pedestrians and motorists to observe all traffic control devices and no parking signs, and to proceed with caution throughout the project areas. Drivers are also advised to anticipate delays and allow for extra travel time.
The curb ramp project will affect the following areas:
• Aiea: Heleconia Place and Moanalua Road
• Salt Lake: Ala Oli Street and Salt Lake Boulevard
• Kalihi: Pua Lane and North King Street
• Downtown Honolulu: Coral Street and Emily Street
• Makiki: Young Street and Pensacola Street; Young Street and Piikoi Street; Keeaumoku Street and S. Beretania Street
• Moiliili: Punahou Street and Young Street
• Manoa: Varsity Place and University Avenue, and S. King Street and University Avenue
• Kahala: Kilauea Avenue and Pueo Street
• Kailua: Hahani Street and Hamakua Drive
