HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Health on Monday issued a red placard and immediately shut down Subway Kunia located in Waipahu because of lack of proper refrigeration, according to a news release.

The establishment is located at 94-535 Kupuohi Street.

The DOH says that until all violations have been resolved and a follow-up inspection is conducted, the establishment must remain closed.

DOH conducted a routine inspection on Jan. 8 during which the inspector found critical violations including onsite refrigerators unable to hold food at “safe temperatures.”

According to DOH, Subway Kunia must have “mechanical refrigeration equipment onsite that can hold all perishable foods at below 41 degrees Fahrenheit.”

DOH will conduct a follow-up inspection after the owners have verified that all foods are being held at 41 degrees.
