HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation has contracted Ocean Companies, Inc. to improve the wastewater system at Heeia Kea Small Boat Harbor in Kaneohe.
Work will begin on Jan. 8.
Because of the scope of the work, the project is estimated to finish in October 2024. Work includes constructing a new “package” wastewater treatment plant, sewage lift station, site and electrical work, fencing and other related improvements, according to a DLNR release.
Throughout the project, up to five boat washdown stalls will be closed. In addition, officials alert harbor users that both comfort stations will be closed for approximately two days at the end of the project to connect the existing sewer system to the new wastewater treatment plant. Temporary bathroom facilities will be made available.
The project is estimated to cost under $3 million.
