HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services reminds residents that refuse collection workers will not be collecting refuse, bulky items, recyclables or green waste on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2024.
These are the only two holidays ENV refuse employees observe throughout the year.
According to ENV, communities that use the three-cart collection system with once-a-week refuse and once-a-week recycling pickup, where the refuse (gray cart) day falls on either of the two holidays, should leave their carts curbside until serviced.
Recycling days that fall on these holidays will not be made up. Hold on to recyclables (blue cart) and green waste (green cart) until the next scheduled pickup date.
Residents on a twice-a-week manual refuse collection schedule are advised to hold on to their items until the next scheduled pickup date.
Bulky item collection is by appointment only and will not be scheduled on the two holidays. Reschedule/Schedule an appointment at the ENV website or by calling 808-768-3200 (Option 0).
Note that all convenience centers, transfer stations, H-POWER and Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will close on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and will reopen on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
