The City and County of Honolulu announced in a news release the start of a project to replace the light poles for the Waialua District Park swimming pool.

The lights will allow evening swimming opportunities to return to the Waialua community.

Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation and Design and Construction will replace six light poles around the pool, which were removed about seven years ago because of corrosion.

The city awarded the $637,000 construction contract to Paul’s Electrical Contracting LLC and the $189,000 design contract to Bennett Engineers Inc.

The city expects Paul’s Electrical Contracting LLC to begin work later this month. They will complete the project in summer 2024.

The project will not affect public access, except shutdowns will be necessary when construction crews raise the poles. The City is providing updates on the pool’s hours on its website
