HANALEI, Hawaii — The County of Kauai Agency on Elderly Affairs announced that its EnhanceFitness program is now available at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center.
Designed for individuals 60 years and over at all levels of fitness, classes are 10 to 11 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, taught by Debbie Lankford, a certified fitness instructor.
The exercise program focuses on balance, strength, endurance and flexibility. Additional benefits include improved range of motion, arthritis management, fall prevention and social interaction.
“I began my journey of becoming an EnhanceFitness Instructor for County of Kaua‘ Elderly Affairs in 2007,” said Lankford in a news release. “EnhanceFitness is a fantastic program for our kupuna as it inspires the participants to be active, to move their body, help their memory and coordination, and enjoy life by being physically active. They enjoy being with their friends and meeting new friends, too. We help them to improve or maintain their cardio-respiratory fitness, strength training, balance, and flexibility.”
The Lihue Neighborhood Center and Kapaa United Church of Christ also hold EnhanceFitness classes. See the class schedule on the Hawaii Healthy Aging Partnership website. For more information, contact Johnny Yago at 808-241-4898.
