HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced in a news release the nightly closure of the eastbound H-1 Freeway from the Punahou Street off-ramp to the Kapiolani Boulevard on-ramp. The road will be closed from Dec. 3 to Dec. 15, from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
The closure will allow crews to install expansion joints and vehicular counting loops.
Drivers traveling in the eastbound direction may exit at the Punahou School Street off-ramp (Exit 23), turn left onto South King Street, turn right onto Kapiolani Boulevard, and then access the on-ramp to the eastbound H-1 Freeway.
Special duty police officers will be on-site assisting with safety procedures. First responders will not be allowed through the work zone.
HDOT noted that the closure of the westbound H-1 Freeway, from the University Avenue Interchange to Alexander Street, will be concurrent with the eastbound closure. The nightly roadwork on the westbound H-1 Freeway is expected to be completed in March 2024.
